How to Build a Patio Pot
Ever wonder how we choose what goes into our patio pots? Here’s a sneak peek into the selection process. Each pot will contain at least one of these plant “characters” to create a unique conversation piece.
Thrillers
01
You’ll typically find these unique plants in the center of the combination. Thrillers tend to have some height and add a “wow” factor to the grouping.
Fillers
02
Filler plants create texture, add color, and fill in dimension. They may not be showy, but no combo pot would be complete without them.
Spillers
03
Typically vines or creeping flowers, spillers are picked for their tendency to spill over the edge of the container. They create an overflow of color that adds even more dimension to the piece.
Caring for your patio pot
Placement
To give your patio pot the best chance to thrive, be sure to follow the recommendations for sun and/or shade for your specific patio pot plants.
Watering
Touch the soil with your finger. If it feels dry, water slowly until water comes out the drainage holes in the bottom of the pot. Water regularly enough to keep the soil moist, but not waterlogged.
Deadheading
Remove any dead or dying blooms throughout the season to encourage new growth.
